use of voice. Voice is the characteristic speech and thought
patterns of a first person narrator; a persona. Because voice has so much to do
with the reader's experience of a work of literature, it is one of the most
important elements of a piece of writing. It may help to identify the use of
tones in your analysis of voice. How does the voice of the speaker influence
your reading of the poem? If these poems had been written about the same topic,
but with a different speaker, would that change the meaning of the poem?
